After over two and a half years of modifications and repairs at two different shops, my 1997 Hamer Standard Mahogany is in my hands, and I can finally hear the Dirty Harry Humbuckers for the first time! Now, I've been a fan of the DH's since Dave first had the idea for them.
I have them in my Robin Revival (Strat setup), my Rawhide E-Type (Esquire setup), and now the humbuckers in what was once a damaged, basket case of a guitar. I'm a Rio guy. Have been since I first heard them, so I already knew I'd like these pickups, even though I had yet to hear them in another guitar.

The best high-output humbucker I've ever played.

You know, for a while there I thought I was over my death 'bucker phase. (OK, it was more like a decade than a phase, but you know what I mean.) I went through at least fifteen different high-output pickups in the bridge of my trusty Les Paul over the years, from all the big builders and quite a few of the boutique names.

Eventually, I got tired of the tradeoff: Yes, I got tight, focused crunch and effortless harmonics out of those 19k ceramic monsters, but too many of them compressed the dynamics out of my playing and NONE of them sounded acceptable clean. Series, parallel or split, it didn't matter - they were all either nasal, piercing or just kind of flat and unpleasant under low gain.

A few months ago, on a whim, I had the guys at Steamboat Ampworks drop a Dirty Harry into my No. 3 guitar, an inexpensive partscaster. (It's a Yamaha, so...Part-cifica, I guess?) That guitar instantly became impossible to put down. Not only does it sound absolutely monstrous under high gain, but it must be the most versatile one-pickup, one-knob guitar on the planet. With a Telecaster-style blade switch, Capt. Jake set it up to go from full series roar, to parallel, to single-coil. It's like a three-channel amp I can control with my pinky.

I can't recommend the Dirty Harry highly enough if you're looking for a scorching hot bridge humbucker that shines in medium and low-gain situations as well.
